SecureShred is a division of Opportunity Enterprises (OE)
Opportunity Enterprises, Inc. (OE) is the premier non-profit provider of education, residential support, vocational training and employment services for individuals with disabilities in Northwest Indiana. Since 1967, Opportunity Enterprises has been creating sustainable life choices and opportunities for individuals with unique challenges and abilities. OE has grown to be one of the largest employers in Porter County, Indiana. Over 470 employees staff two multi-program campuses, seven group homes, two respite homes, nearly 40 supported living sites and provide transportation with 20 buses. Today, we provide nearly 1,000 individuals with disabilities a supportive environment where they can learn, increase skills and reach their full potential. Through programs such as Daily Living Skills, Art Enrichment, and JobSource, OE serves people living in eight counties; 93% of individuals served live in Lake and Porter County.
In 1995, OE established our first social enterprise to employ our diversely skilled population of individuals with disabilities, provide goods and services to our community, and generate additional earned income to provide services for our clients. We now operate four business service divisions in our non-profit organization. Our customers value not only the impact our service makes on their bottom line, but also the social profit they gain by working with a non-profit serving our population.
Secure Shred, our confidential document destruction service, opened in 2003. Thousands of businesses, from small offices to Fortune 500 companies, trust Secure Shred to handle their document destruction with the highest standard of confidentiality, professionalism and meticulous care.
Our clients, employed by Secure Shred, are specifically trained for their position on the Secure Shred team and are hired because of their ability to do the job effectively. This enables our clients to be gainfully employed, giving them responsibility, a sense of purpose and another step toward self-sufficiency. Because our clients service our customer sites, it also gives the community the opportunity for positive interaction with people of disabilities.
With our plant-based shredding machinery, a mobile shredding unit and a workforce of over 20 clients, Secure Shred collects, processes and destroys an average of 20 tons of paper every week. Once the paper is destroyed, it is bound, baled and sent to a paper recycling company. This keeps the paper out of a landfill and reduces the impact on our environment.
In 2016, Secure Shred earned “AAA” certification from the National Association of Information Destruction (NAID). This certification, earned and retained through rigorous procedure audits, brings added peace of mind to our customers. Secure Shred is the trusted provider of sensitive document destruction services for regional hospital systems and their affiliates such as Franciscan Alliance, Methodist Hospitals, and Porter Health Care. Our NAID certification ensures our compliance with HIPPA regulations.
The best part about Secure Shred is the amazing people who work there. You will find our employees to be exceptional, dedicated to their work, and focused on your satisfaction.
